Here is an interesting article about a woman who ran the fastest time in a marathon, but didn't win because she wasn't in the "elite section" at the starting line. Crazy story.

Bernard Lagat and Shannon Rowbury Make Fifth Avenue Mile Debuts
Sunday will indeed be the first time that the two U.S. Olympic Trials 1500-meter winners will race the 20 blocks down Fifth Avenue. They'll part of a field featuring ten Olympians, including American 800-meter runner Nick Symmonds, 2006 Fifth Avenue winner Kevin Sullivan of Canada, and Olympic 1500-meter bronze medalist Nick Willis of New Zealand on the men's side and Rowbury's teammate Erin Donohue and Great Britain's Lisa Dobriskey (the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medalist in the 1500) on the women's side.

"I had hoped to finally break eight minutes today," said Kipsiele Koech, who had first broken the eight minute-barrier back in 2004 and then did so every year since with the exception of this season. With his personal best of 7:56.37 minutes in 2005 he is the fifth fastest ever. "And I was prepared for this. But it was getting too hard to run without pacemakers and in the cool weather. I am not used to those conditions. I did go out fast because I did not want the race to become slow, because in a sprint everyone can win."

More than 10 heavily armed raided the palatial home of Olympic marathon champion Samuel Kamau Wanjiru at Muthaiga Estate in Nyahururu Town and terrorised his family for close to thirty minutes on Friday night.

The gold medalist was not at home during the 11 am attack. He had earlier left for Nairobi to grace the Ndakaini marathon, which was held on Friday.
