The Miner Meet Showdown.

I just got back from Rolla, MO where I had a great weekend and had a lot of fun.  I got there Friday night and met up with a bunch of my old friends and then called it an early night and crashed on one of the Runner's house couches.  I got up the next morning around 6:20 and met up with some of my old teammates for some breakfast.  I had a couple bagels with peanut butter and then went back to the house to kill some time before the 10:30 race.

Around 8 I went to the course with some other alumni.  When we got there we realized that some of our team (team alumni) bought a tent and camped out on the course.  The cops ended up driving up on the course and 2 in the morning to make sure they weren't homeless and then let them on their way.

Eventually it was time to warmup and get going.  The gun eventually went off and the pack went out.  I forgot how quick college CC races go out but I just kept my cool and slowly moved up.  One guy from Lindenwood took out the pace and I just wanted to draft so I did.  He motioned for me to take the lead a couple times but honestly, I just wasn't in the mood. He through in a surge before the mile marker but I just hung.  Eventually we hit the first mile around 5:03 and at that point I just went.  I know with the fact I haven't down speed workouts that I had no kick and I needed to try to make a gap.

Well, the other guy actually dropped out and I did get a pretty good lead.  I started thinking that I had this race in the bag but then this kid from Drury had an amazing kick and reeled me in. My 50m gap ended up being a 2nd place by 5 seconds for me.  It was rough.  I finished in an 18:44 for the 6k.  It was still a lot of fun.  I'm looking forward to going back next year.

After that race it was time to party with some alumni.  It was really good seeing all these people for the weekend.
