Well, I was invited to join the team on a long Sunday morning so of course I accepted.  Of course, after going out a night before, doing a 15 miler is always a little fun.  But in all due seriously, it was a good time.  Its always great to run in a group of people again.  After that I sat around for a little bit then eventually drove back to Kansas.  I got a couple double cheeseburgers from McDonalds and I was good to go.

I just got back from Rolla, MO where I had a great weekend and had a lot of fun.  I got there Friday night and met up with a bunch of my old friends and then called it an early night and crashed on one of the Runner's house couches.  I got up the next morning around 6:20 and met up with some of my old teammates for some breakfast.  I had a couple bagels with peanut butter and then went back to the house to kill some time before the 10:30 race.

Around 8 I went to the course with some other alumni.  When we got there we realized that some of our team (team alumni) bought a tent and camped out on the course.  The cops ended up driving up on the course and 2 in the morning to make sure they weren't homeless and then let them on their way.

Eventually it was time to warmup and get going.  The gun eventually went off and the pack went out.  I forgot how quick college CC races go out but I just kept my cool and slowly moved up.  One guy from Lindenwood took out the pace and I just wanted to draft so I did.  He motioned for me to take the lead a couple times but honestly, I just wasn't in the mood. He through in a surge before the mile marker but I just hung.  Eventually we hit the first mile around 5:03 and at that point I just went.  I know with the fact I haven't down speed workouts that I had no kick and I needed to try to make a gap.

Well, the other guy actually dropped out and I did get a pretty good lead.  I started thinking that I had this race in the bag but then this kid from Drury had an amazing kick and reeled me in. My 50m gap ended up being a 2nd place by 5 seconds for me.  It was rough.  I finished in an 18:44 for the 6k.  It was still a lot of fun.  I'm looking forward to going back next year.

After that race it was time to party with some alumni.  It was really good seeing all these people for the weekend.

I got up and it was a chilly 53 degrees this morning.  I did my typical, "day before a race 5ish mile loop" and then a few strides to just get my legs ready for the beating I'll put them through tomorrow.  After that I packed all my things and am ready to go to Rolla as soon as I get off of work.  Its going to be a fun weekend.

On a side note, my mom sent me pictures of our yard (back in Alexandria, Louisiana) and I'll include on from our backyard.  All I can say is its a good thing I'm training up here and not down there.

I just did an easy 50 minuteish run this afternoon.  It was a nice 65 degrees, barely drizzling.  I came back and got a package in the mail. My finacee mailed me cleaning stuff because she new I wouldn't by it on my own.  Well, her plan worked because I made our apartment spotless.  After that I packed for my trip to Rolla for the Miner meet.  Come to think about it, I don't know if I'll be able to update this blog since I won't have my computer. But you can tune into my twitter account.

I know I've mentioned in a few posted this meet I got coming up. Its more then just the typical road races I've been doing so I figured I would explain it. As mentioned in my about page, I went to the University of Missouri: Rolla, a DII engineering school.  During my four years there I ran track and cross country and got pretty good at them both.

My junior and senior year I was the school's #1 running in cross country.  I made most my friends through the team and still talk to them often.  Our schools home cross country meet was always at the start of our season and a lot of fun.  Not many schools would show up, but the alumni did an excellent job of forming their own team and having a good time. Well, my junior and senior year went by and I won our home meet each time.  Towards the end of the track season I started joking around about how I will come back and be the first alumni to win the race, and be 3 time champion.

Well, since I've moved on with my life I have still kept up my training pretty well. I can still run 15:30 5ks so I'm in pretty good shape.  The question is, am I in good enough shape to race some young college, blood.  I guess we will see this weekend when I drive back to the Rolla, MO.
